It's the number of days since the Workshop "ran" if it's more than 0 it hasn't been running for however many days it says, likely because it's missing the required inputs for the type of workshop i.e. you have a pottery workshop and no village providing clay .. etc Fight all the battles, sell what loot you don't use, influence will grind into money. If there's no war, fight bandits and clear hideouts. Having a couple workshops helps, of course, but you shouldn't have too much trouble keeping your influence up and the pay rolling. A good workshop should be making around 200 denars per day, apparently, but 300+ or even 400+ are possible.
